Our Missions
Please take some time to learn more about some of the important missions supported by our church.

Across the Pond Ministries
Alysen Merrill is a 2005 graduate of KCU.  In 2003 Alysen did an internship in England and felt strongly the great need for help among the struggling Churches there.  In June of 2005 she returned to Central Avenue Christian Church in Wigston, UK.  This Church is located approximately 1 and 1/2 hours from London.  She has committed to work with this Church for 3 years.  Willing to serve in any capacity, she also has some specific goals planned.  Some of these include helping to train those already in leadership positions; build relationships and mentor the established Mums and Tots group; make new contacts in the community; work specifically with 15-18 age group and work with other leaders from the local burrough to form a concentrated youth outreach."

Christ Reaching Asia Mission Worldwide , Inc
C.Y. spent some years in prison before finally being released.  Unable to go back to the work they had been doing prior to his imprisonment, C.Y. and Patricia were led to begin outreach ministries to China and North Korea.  In Huchun, China, they have constructed an education center where 100 disabled students attend daily.  Plans for a boys and girls dormitory have been drawn up as well.  Ongoing ministries include underground church work in China.

Crimean-American College
From the beginning, the effort to establish a stronghold for Christ's church in the former Soviet Union has been a faith walk. CAC is educating for international leadership as students prepare to become leaders in: 1) Education - several graduates have completed graduate degrees in the U.S. and returned to teach at CAC; 2) the Church – graduates provide servant-leadership at Simferopol Christian Church; 3) in the Public Square; and 4) Outreach MinistryProject Sasha (care for homeless street children), Tabitha Clothing Stores (provides very low cost used clothing to the poor), and Dyetski Dom (fully equipped home and care facility for children). God is at work in Crimea; He has truly blessed the efforts of those who have partnered with Crimean-American College. Thank you, First Church, for your continued prayers and financial support!

Mashoko/Hippo Valley Christian Mission - Zimbabwe
In 1956 John and Marjorie Pemberton went to Southern Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe, as missionaries with Central Africa Mission. Their work has centered on establishing churches, training leaders of the churches, evangelism, and establishing schools where Bible is taught as a required subject. John and Marjorie retired from the mission field to Grayson, KY in 1994. Their sons John Mark and Bob have worked hand in hand with other local Christian co-workers to build on the foundation they began. The schools continue to be a powerful tool of evangelism as well as a training ground for future leaders in the church. Since John Mark’s untimely death in November, 2005, Leanna has been asked by the Board to remain fulltime as Hippo Valley Christian Mission continues it’s work, with a team of ministers in the Mashoko/Hippo Valley area, in discipling and church planting. This has included working with repatriated Mozambican refugees, where the Lord has raised up three evangelists and five congregations. In response to the incredible AIDS crisis in Zimbabwe, Chiredzi Christian Children's Home and Chiredzi Christian Children's Village have been opened for orphans where children victimized by AIDS find refuge and hope through Jesus.

Mexico Christian Children’s Home
In 1970, Bob and Bev Wright went to Mexico to care for abandoned and homeless children.  They also started a church in 1990 which serves their mission area.  They have an outreach to Cuba by sending boxes of material and New Testament Bibles.  Our church had been involved with this work very personally through mission trips that involves members of the congregation spending time building, repairing equipment and working with children.
